Dear Mr Lau,
Application for the Post of Graduate Master of Information and Communication Technology
In response to your advertisement on jump.mingpao.com dated 23 March 2022, I am writing to apply for the position of Graduate Master of Information and Communication Technology in your school. Having read the job description, I believe that my academic background makes me a strong candidate for the post. I am drawn to your school’s motto. I also subscribe to your school’s belief in the student-oriented approach that emphasizes moral values, academic performance, and trilingual proficiency. Whereas morality and knowledge are the pillars of whole-person development, trilingualism is the key to success in this cosmopolitan city and beyond.
In the coming July, I will graduate from The Education University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) in Information and Communication Technology. Besides, I have two minors: Science; Coding, Design and Technology. During my five-year study, I have learnt different IT techniques and pedagogy, and received outstanding grades in my major subjects. Having many teamwork experiences in EdUHK, I am confident in working well in various academic and administrative committees in your school.
I have accumulated valuable professional experience in Block Practice of Teaching - Field Experience. I taught in two secondary schools as a student teacher in Semester 2, 2020 and Semester 1, 2021, which brought me a Distinction in the Block Practice of Teaching. In each class that I taught, I effectively developed students’ confidence in learning and communication as well as acquired the pedagogical skills in preparing and implementing lesson plans. I have learnt to observe students and to cater for each student’ unique needs. Through a student-centred approach, “learning by doing”, I enabled students to construct knowledge by learning from self-directed, hands-on experiences.
Before entering university, I graduated from the Hong Kong Professional College and was awarded the Higher Diploma in Information Technology. My major study covered different areas of information technology such as Xcode, PHP, MySQL, mobile user interface design, etc. During my two-year study, I have learnt a full range of software skills and received good grades in almost all the computer-based subjects.
As a fresh graduate, I have a passion for designing layout usability and STEM education using innovative technology. Regarding my skills in STEM education, I participated in various kinds of STEM-related activities, which are proven by STEM-related certificates and my enrolment of STEM courses throughout my university life. For instance, I enrolled in a course, which was Community Service-based Learning in 2017-2018 Semester 2 and received the Distinction grade. The course provides me with a service-based learning platform for learning and implementing practical skills and strategies in leading STEM activities. During the semester, I independently developed STEM modules in the educational context through diverse and authentic community service learning. I have organised some STEM activities for the students to learn. Therefore, I am confident in coordinating and promoting after-school STEM activities and assisting in the preparation of STEM teaching materials in your school.
From my experiences throughout the university study, I view myself as a patient, caring and ambitious person. I am willing to devote the entirety of my effort and love to the teaching of students. I hope that my qualifications are of interest to you.
I would be grateful if you would consider my application and offer me an interview. My CV and personal statement are attached to this application for your reference. Please feel free to contact me at 9XXX-XXX0 if any further information is required.
Yours sincerely,
Chan Hong Kiu
