Scholarly publications (Journals)\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p><strong>Scholarly resources<\/strong> (sometimes called academic resources) have the following qualities:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\">Written <strong>by <\/strong>experts with credentials or affiliations (PhD, M.D.)\u00a0<\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\">Written <strong>for<\/strong> other experts &#8211; each work is a voice in an ongoing conversation<\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\">Scholarly <strong>language <\/strong>&#8211; technical, discipline-specific vocabulary\u00a0<\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Verifiable<\/strong> and <strong>reliable<\/strong> <strong>evidence <\/strong>&#8211; look for citations\u00a0<\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\">Peer reviewed &#8211; editorial process where other experts review and assess information\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Peer review<\/b>\u00a0is an important process in scholarly communication. The process of peer review is supposed to ensure that corrections are made to an article before publication, holding the article&#8217;s content to a higher standard.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scholarly journals <\/strong>are the main publication format for scholarly research. Most scholarly journals are available for students online and are accessible through library databases. Find out more about library databases below.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\t2. Books \/ Book Chapters\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>Many academic books will be edited by an expert or group of experts.\u00a0 Often, books are a good source for a thorough investigation of a topic.\u00a0 Unlike a scholarly article, which will usually focus on the results of one research project, a book is likely to include an overview of research or issues related to its topic.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\t3. Conference proceedings\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>Conference proceedings are compilations of papers, research, and information presented at conferences. Proceedings are sometimes peer-reviewed and are often the first publication of research that later appears in a scholarly publication (see above!).\u00a0 Proceedings are more commonly encountered (via databases and other searching) in science and engineering fields than in the arts and humanities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\t4. Theses &#038; Dissertations\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>Theses and dissertations are the result of an individual student&#8217;s research while in a graduate program.\u00a0 They are written under the guidance and review of an academic committee but are not considered &#8220;peer-reviewed&#8221; or &#8220;refereed&#8221; publications.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Types of academic sources 1.
